Looking good and dressing appropriately is a must for putting forward your best for your recital. Two weeks before the recital date, take a look in your closet. If you already have clothes that are appropriate for the recital, take it out of the closet and decide if it needs to be cleaned or ironed. If not, you may need to plan a shopping trip for the piano learning kids! Base your decision on appropriateness of your outfit as outlined in Tips 2.

Are your clothes modest? For girls and women: Is the neckline modestly cut, not too low?; Does the hem reach at to at least the top of your knee, and not above it?; Does it fit you well and is not too tight or provocative? For boys and men: Do your shirt and pants fit you well and are not baggy? Have you asked your instructor if he/she requires a tie and dress shirt/pants?

Shoes are important, too! Wear dress shoes that are attractive and complement your outfit.

You just found out from the piano teacher that a piano recital is approaching, and she wants your child to prepare two pieces of music to play. Your child is nervous about the recital and questions if he can even do it. As a parent, you can help your child to prepare and get ready for his recital.

Talk to his piano teacher and tell her of your child’s fear. She should be able to offer some advice and help talk to your child to encourage and build his confidence.

Continue to support your child. Let her know that being nervous is a normal reaction and that everyone, even grown-ups, feel it to a certain extent when they have to do a recital.

Listen to what he has to share with you and address his concerns in a kind and respectful way.

Help her choose the music for the recital or she can pick what she likes to play.

Help her to pick out the clothes she will wear for the recital ahead of time. That way, she has one less thing to worry about on the day of her recital.

Remind him to relax, not to worry and just enjoy playing his favorite piece.

Reward her after the recital whether she makes a mistake or not. Let her know that you are proud of her either way.
