Hand Position

Hand position shouldn’t be neglected in our piano learning.   Establish the correct hand position:-

1. Hold your hand with the palm facing up, as though you are holding an apple in your palm.
2. Turn your hand over and place it on the keys with fingers still gently curved.  Fingers are never straight on the piano keyboard.  Please bear in mind.
3. Keep the wrist in line with the forearm.   Remember, try not to bend it up or down.   Please keep everything gently and aligned will ensure a relax arm, hand and fingers.
4. Relax your shoulders.  Imagine weight is falling from the shoulders straight down the arms to the wrists, so the arm will always stay loose.

As you carry on with your piano learning – learn how to play the piano, you will need to keep your hand and finger movement to a minimum.  When you start your finger practicing exercise, however, over emphasize finger movement to build accuracy on the keys and strengthen the fingers, hands and forearms.

Fingernails must be trimmed short, otherwise they will clock on the keys and force you to play with straightened fingers in your piano learning and practising.  Which is consider a poor technic in your piano learning
