The act of making music ,whether singing a song or composing a piece for, pencil sharpeners and sandpaper,is a creative act. Creativity is play and both of these elements are essential for elearning. Improvising is something children do all time. Recess, for example, is a grand drama enacted every day featuring armies drumming into battle, mothers singing to their young, and legions of chanting jump ropers. You can bring this musical play and piano learning into the classroom.

When create something – a work of art or a song- we are being compassionate. We are making the world a more beautiful place by giving of ourselves. And the wellspring of this creativity is the same source as all creativity in the universe. Galaxies create planets and suns. Children create songs and dances. Each makes the world better. In Western Africa, the act of making music is synonymous with the act of giving. The main reason for making music is to be generous. Creativity is born of our generosity of spirit.

Music is play
We all play. We all improvise. When we chat informally with our family and friends, we are being spontaneous. We think of speech as being easy, but creating music as being challenging. If you simply get rid of fears, creating and improvising music can be just as carrying on a conversation. Music is communication. Music is play. And most importantly,music is for all of us,not just the specialists.
