Without any verifiable training, are you going to use the services of a lawyer, a doctor or speech therapist? Of course not! Definately, They would have to be trained and licensed before providing their services.

Unfortunately, private piano teachers is not the case. Anybody who has the intention to teach private piano lessons may advertise and teach anybody who is willing to pay, whether or not they have any relevant piano teaching qualifications or experience. I have listed out 9 tips, which will be helpful guide for those adult student or the parent while planning or in their process of choosing the piano teacher:-

1. The professional background of the Piano Teacher?
Understand and Learn all you can about the teacher’s degrees and performance experience before choosing a music teacher.

2. The experience of the teacher in teaching adult students or students the age of my child?
This is important, especially for young children. Is the teacher has any the appropriate vocabulary and expectations to really connect and stimulate the child’s interest in making music?

3. Shall I or my child have any input in the instruction process?
Is the piano teacher willing to be flexible if a student really wants to learn a particular song? In addition, How about playing different styles? E.g. some teachers might feel comfortable teaching only classical, while you might be interested in learning how to play jazz.

4. The parents’ responsibilities and contribution in the children piano practice?
The teacher should make sure that students and parents understand the role they need to play in the learning process before they sign up for lessons.

5. Any Piano Music school policy?
Make sure you read it carefully before signing up. That should clarify issues like cancellations, schedule flexibility, payment etc.

6. Any meet up with the students or parents before starting lessons?
If you are still not quite sure of your choice by speaking over the phone, much can be gained from even a short face-to-face meeting.

7. Where is the class going to be conduct?
Make sure that you like the teaching environment. Lots of time will be spent there. A piano in the corner of a sitting room might fail to capture the imagination of some students, especially young children. The teaching space should stimulate the student’s interest as much as possible.

8. Is the learning process “fun” or bored?
Although learning to play an instrument requires hard work, patience and determination, I believe that it should be fun. Music lessons can so easily become boring and bland, even stressful. Your teacher should have a positive and enthusiastic attitude. Listen for words like “enjoyment” and “fun”.

9. How is the duration you actually play?
This might sound like a silly question, but you’ll be surprised at how many piano teachers can’t play well, or even worse, can’t play at all! I play for my students regularly as I believe that observing and listening to your teacher performing is very much part of the learning process. It also does wonders in motivating aspiring students.

Learning the answers to these questions will definitely help you make a wiser decision concerning this most important choice in your own or your child’s musical education.

Still cannot forget, when I was in my childhood life, I was one of those people who always dreamed of playing the piano but never thought I could. At least I was until I came across some short, simple lessons on the basics of piano playing. I decided to give it a try, and I have been practicing ever since.

When I started my first touch on my own piano, how happy I was. Before that, I knew what a piano looked like, but I had not really taken notice of how the white and black keys make a pattern. That was the first little bit of instruction that helped me to realize that the piano might be decipherable after all. Since the keyboard could be broken down into sections, I had something to guide me in finding each individual key.

I began with the lessons that were in the material I had. After each section, I had to try out the concepts I had found out about. I had to try to play the notes, write the notes, clap the rhythms, or play lines of melody. In awhile, I began to test myself. I went back over the lessons and tried each concept. I did this several times, always getting better and better.

I developed my own practice schedule, finding time between my work and daily chores. It was satisfying to accomplish so much so quickly. The slow pace of formal lessons may be good for children, but as an adult, I appreciated the ability to go at my own pace.

There came a time when I wanted to play music that was easy for me – music that I recognized rather than what I was writing out in my exercises. So, I went to the music store and bought two books. I chose an Easy Piano Book and a Fake Book, just as the lessons had suggested.

I went through the Easy Piano Book, learning to sight read without too much difficulty. That was when I began playing songs I had heard all my life. This particular Easy Piano Book was based on Broadway musicals. I knew most of the songs already, so it was great to be able to play them.

The Fake Book, on the other hand, was full of modern pop songs. I had read through the lessons and found out how to use a Fake Book, so I quickly began. I did not know all the chords, so I looked up the new ones before I tried to play each song.

Soon I was playing songs that I had heard on the radio. This was just as fun as the Broadway songs, and my friends seemed to like it even better. It was a lot of fun for everyone, me included.

I am so glad that I took the time to learn the basics of piano playing until further my piano lessons to a higher level. I am happy with teh chances given by the GOD, I never wanted to take the world by storm but at least I had a chance to exposure myself to the world of piano music and get a valuable chance to enhance my piano learning skills from variety of source which I won’t be regret when I am getting old. I am happy with my piano learning so far I had achieved and promise to enhance my skills to a higher level. Nothing much, I just wanted to learn something that would make me personally a little happier. And that is just what I did.

The act of making music ,whether singing a song or composing a piece for, pencil sharpeners and sandpaper,is a creative act. Creativity is play and both of these elements are essential for elearning. Improvising is something children do all time. Recess, for example, is a grand drama enacted every day featuring armies drumming into battle, mothers singing to their young, and legions of chanting jump ropers. You can bring this musical play and piano learning into the classroom.

When create something – a work of art or a song- we are being compassionate. We are making the world a more beautiful place by giving of ourselves. And the wellspring of this creativity is the same source as all creativity in the universe. Galaxies create planets and suns. Children create songs and dances. Each makes the world better. In Western Africa, the act of making music is synonymous with the act of giving. The main reason for making music is to be generous. Creativity is born of our generosity of spirit.

Music is play
We all play. We all improvise. When we chat informally with our family and friends, we are being spontaneous. We think of speech as being easy, but creating music as being challenging. If you simply get rid of fears, creating and improvising music can be just as carrying on a conversation. Music is communication. Music is play. And most importantly, music is for all of us,not just the specialists.

There is a little known phenomenon in nature called entertainment. Entertainment, quite simply, is the tendency for one pulse to imitate another pulse. Kindergarten teachers are often aware that the speed of their speech and actions will affect their children. Children may imitate hyperactivity and become hyper themselves. Teachers who speak slowly to children receive calm reactions. Our rhythms copy each other. Two people walking down the street will often begin to walk in the same rhythm.

Biologists note that everything from heart rates to brain waves entrain to other rhythms. A car mechanic entrains the engine when he or she tunes it. Examples of entertainment are all around us.

It is possible to use musical activities as simple as clapping or marching to create powerful learning environments where an entire class becomes “in sync” with itself. Students may become unified in the rhythm, able to learn at an accelerated pace.

Everyday in the life of a child has its own rhythms. Using entertainment, you can smooth out the transitions between one activity and another. You can use a song to ease children into quite reading. You can use music as a signal for meeting time. You can insert a song during a sleepy afternoon math class to simply wake the students up and charge their brains.

As I have said, everything from brain waves to heartbeats to breathing can be entrained using music. It is a powerful tool, one worth recognizing.

Music is Good for Memory
The ability to sequence activities or thoughts and retain them is a necessary learning skill. Because of entertainment and the rhythms of learning, it is a necessary learning skill.Because of entertainment and the rhythms of elearning, it is easier for a child to learn a song or rap than it is to learn a history lesson or math table. The brain seems to work musically – learning with the aid of music becomes almost effortless. It is no coincidence that so many of us learned the alphabet through “The alphabet sings”.
